Summer 2013

Summer 2013 - Spent June and July in the weeds, and I don't mean camping, though there was a little bit of that too. I buried myself in denoising, declicking, de-wowing, de-fluttering, and otherwise working to bring out the very best in an astounding collection of live recordings of folk, bluegrass and singer/songwriter artists for the 3-CD box set Live At Caffè Lena: Music From America's Legendary Coffeehouse, 1967-2013, coming out on Tompkins Square records this September. Hear a sample on Tompkins Square's soundcloud. I am so proud of this work and excited for its release! I also mastered the debut EP of the utterly charming and talented Moe and Tom and a compilation of Boston bands covering early Lilys recordings, curated by Jay Breitling of clickyclicky music blog. And, after many months (years?) in the works, the Afro-Colombian electronic duo Palenke Soultribe's Mar has finally been released. Check out their videos.

Much more good music coming down the pike. Dare I take a vacation this month?

Your Carefully Designed Topless Swimsuit

I can't believe Jeremy Clarkson just casually tossed out a Peter Sarstedt lyric while test driving the Ferrari FF on Top Gear. "Your carefully designed topless swimsuit"...

(You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs).

Here's Peter Sarstedt performing the song, Where Do You Go To, My Lovely in 1969 on Top of the Pops.

The song was also featured prominently in Wes Anderson's short film Hotel Chevalier in 2007, which kickstarted my obsession with Peter Sarstedt.
